The 12th 5GAA (5G Automotive Association) F2F meeting was held from Nov. 11th to Nov. 13th in Turin, Italy. On Nov. 14th, “The 5G Path of Vehicle-to-Everything Communication: From Local to Global” conference with live demonstrations was taken place. The event has attracted core members of the association such as Audi, FCA, Qualcomm, Ericsson, Continental, Huawei and etc. NavInfo, as a member of 5GAA, was also invited to join the F2F meetings and to give a presentation on its C-V2X solution.

Since joining 5GAA in July 2018, NavInfo has actively participated various activities and was seeking for opportunities to make contribution for the development of 5GAA. During the meeting, NavInfo presented its C-V2X solution from a location service provider’s perspective and discussed with industry experts on how location service could empower C-V2X and demonstrated its use case in China’s Wuxi V2X pilot zone. The presentation attracted attendees’ strong interests on NavInfo’s current solution and its ADAS Map, HD-GNSS and HD Map. NavInfo was also invited by a few working groups to join their future discussion as they have recognized the value of location services in C-V2X.

By the end of 2017, NavInfo joined the Wuxi C-V2X project and started the development and exploration of C-V2X. In 2018, NavInfo became a close partner of Wuxi project, which NavInfo provided a web-side information monitoring platform for project team and developed a C-V2X terminal application platform. NavInfo became a strategic partner of Wuxi project in 2019 and developed a complete C-V2X solution of “ADAS Map + HD-GNSS” which brought the solution at lane-level.

In addition to self-dependent intelligent vehicle, V2X is also part of NavInfo’s development strategy of “Thinking of Smart Mobility”. From the view of a location service provider, NavInfo has a unique and professional perspective. In recent years, NavInfo has formed a comprehensive intelligent map product portfolio consisting of navigation map, ADAS map and HD Map for autonomous driving, which is capable to cover all future potential mobility scenarios. By combing with intelligent maps, C-V2X could offer better user experiences as map is a medium that efficiently organize and manage C-V2X information. This combination could also commercialize V2X functions, such as speed recommendation for green light pass and lane-level warning.

Besides ADAS map, NavInfo's C-V2X solution also uses high-precision positioning (HD-GNSS) solution from its subsidiary Sixents Technology. Traditional GPS positioning only receives the data from the satellite signal, but due to the error of the satellite itself and error from the propagation path, the positioning accuracy can only reach the meter level. In order to reduce these errors, Sixents relies on RTK technology by establishing 2,000+ base stations nationwide. With the ground-based augmentation network and data processing cloud, the correction information of various errors is calculated and broadcasted to the terminal equipment in real time. This makes the positioning precision at centimeter level. Applied this technology into C-V2X and combined it with ADAS maps, V2X functions and applications can be fully expressed at lane level.

Meanwhile, as the C-V2X communication technology and smart device matures, V2X applications are gradually developing to the Internet-of-Everything. High-definition map and high-precision positioning, as indispensable infrastructures in Vehicle-to-Everything and provide strong support for accurate monitoring, expression and service of C-V2X. Furthermore, they also support the development of roadside infrastructure, vehicle terminals, connected vehicle service and platform providers and other partners in the ecosystem. In the future, NavInfo will be committed to continuous innovation and providing different solutions to meet the needs of different stages in C-V2X development.

The 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) is a global, cross-industry organisation of companies from the automotive, technology, and telecommunications industries (ICT), working together to develop end-to-end solutions for future mobility and transportation services. Created on September 2016, the 5GAA unites a large member base, including 8 founding members: AUDI AG, BMW Group, Daimler AG, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia, and Qualcomm Incorporated. Since its inception, 5GAA has rapidly expanded to include key players with a global footprint in the automotive, technology and telecommunications industries. This includes automotive manufacturers, tier-1 suppliers, chipset/communication system providers, mobile operators and infrastructure vendors. More than 130 companies have now joined 5GAA. Diverse both in terms of geography and expertise, 5GAA’s members are committed to helping define and develop the next generation of connected mobility and automated vehicle solutions.
