Recently, NavInfo has been granted a temporary license plate for road test for autonomous driving vehicles, at T3 level, by the Beijing Government. NavInfo becomes the first location service provider to receive the T3 road test license plate.

NavInfo's autonomous driving vehicles for the exam are equipped with four 16-line lidars, two long-range millimeter-wave radars, and a monocular camera with the visual perception algorithm developed independently by NavInfo, making it a hardware configuration more acceptable to the market and easier to be converted and proposing higher requirements for software and algorithm capabilities.

Before the license is issued, autonomous driving vehicles shall undergo several links, such as the 5000km test in the enclosed test field, capacity assessment, expert group assessment, and review by the Beijing Autonomous Driving Test Management Joint Working Group, as well as comprehensive inspection and examination of their capacities in nearly 30 scenarios like speed changing, lane changing, steering, traffic sign/signal light recognition, obstacle escape capacity, recognition of road signs/marking lines and traffic facilities, and understanding of traffic regulations and humanized driving rules.

HD Map + AI - NavInfo's Unique Autonomous Driving Technology Route

While HD map is generally recognized an essential part of the senior autonomous driving system today, NavInfo has proposed its own solution to the application of HD maps and made its due contribution to helping the industry develop autonomous driving system that is safe, reliable, affordable and capable of mass production.

The HD map reconstructs the real environment in a way that vehicles can understand and renders around 100 map attributes with centimeter-level precise data, thus playing important roles in autonomous driving positioning, perception, planning and decision-making by means of real-time online safety sensors. HD map can help interpret the complex environment, dividing the overall plan into small tasks by scene to lower or optimize the distribution system's demands of other sensors.

In addition to HD maps, AI technology also plays an important role in NavInfo's development of autonomous driving. The high-quality image data acquired from the national map data collection process, the point cloud data of the nearly 300,000km expressway, and the diversified data from domestic and foreign partners have offered a great practice dataset for NavInfo's AI-based deep learning algorithms. The AI-based visual perception algorithm allows the system to accurately perform object recognition and detailed calculations, and to rapidly rebuild the 3D environment and predict the vehicle, people and objects in the environment at the premise of a lower reliance on high-beam lidar.

Patrick Cheng, the CEO of NavInfo, once said, "AI of Things is the future development trend of the world. For NavInfo, AI of Vehicles is our key development direction at the current stage. We've been empowering our clients and promoting the development of our partners with quality location services in the past two decades. Data plus algorithms are our core competence, and our capital for AI development. The AI empowerment of vehicles simply embodies NavInfo's development philosophy that centers on inheritance and innovation, and our thinking on the commercial development of autonomous driving."

Now that it has been granted the T3 license, NavInfo will accelerate maturizing its autonomous driving L4 solution and completing the universalization expansion to cover more urban, high-speed applications with a universal system.
